Influence of Lightning Current Parameters and Earthing System Designs on Tower Footing Impedance of 500 kV Lines

This paper presents an optimum earthing system design for improving the lightning performance of a 500 kV transmission line its sustainable operation. The study includes interpretation soil profile and compares results between default new arrangements tower footing resistance impedance. An evaluation (TFR) impedance (Ri) before after improvement was carried out. Moreover, effects TFR Ri, also known as low high-frequency earthing, respectively, based on specification resistivity (SR) ranges at various sites were considered. analysis out using SESCAD tool Current Distribution Electromagnetic Field Grounding Soil Structure Analysis software (CDEGS) PSCAD/EMTDC high frequency respectively. From analysis, showed that arrangement reduced by 74.11% Tower T40, 75.71% T41 80.83% T42. For demonstrated values significantly decreased below during operation due to ionisation phenomenon took place lightning. All these improvements are now being investigated studied in all networks Malaysia, where is considered major threat relation power outages.
